After running a series of focus groups with Squarespace employees to understand what folks loved most about our culture, it was made clear that being an dog-friendly office was a positive to both pup guardians and those who weren’t.

Being dog-friendly was a way to show another side of employees, bring comfort and joy to the office, bring more comfort and joy to the pups, and lets be real, it cut down significantly on the cost of pet care—a huge expense in NYC.

To highlight this element of our culture, my team created a series called “Dogs of Squarespace,” which took the serious, highly stylized look and feel of the Squarespace brand and poked a little fun at it, with the same kind of highly-styled photography often seen in consumer marketing campaigns. This also helped to show that while we were serious about our work, we didn’t take ourselves too seriously.

My favorite thing? I still see employees sharing these photos six years later. While people and their fur babies grow older, the essence of their personalities that these photos captured still resonates, and that means a lot to me. It means I did my job—and helped to authentically represent team members and their favorite element of the Squarespace culture.
